Strategic Planning Process

We launched our strategic planning process at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The process was intended to provide a clear picture of five things: What our district is about, where we're headed, what we want to achieve, how we'll get there, and how we'll measure our progress.

Phase 1: Collect

Our strategic planning development and adoption timeline has three phases. We started by gathering input from students, staff, families, and our community (July-September 2024).

The Wingspan News at Heritage High School interviewed Dr. Norton, Mr. Lannon and Mr. Elmore to begin updating our community.

The Board then participated in a Board Governance Planning Meeting on August 10, 2024. This was critical in defining collective agreements, mission, vision, and goals that were adopted at the September 16, 2024 Board Meeting.

The Strategic Planning Survey was active from July-October 2024.

Listening sessions were held :

January 8th, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. at Heritage High School and Heritage Elementary/Junior High.

February 26, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. (Pizza and Perspectives) at Charlie's-102 N. Main St, Homer

Phase II will began in January as a representative group of stakeholders, which will include students, staff, parents, and community members (January-April 2025). This committee provided input on the priorities for the strategic goals for the next five years.

Phase III: Finalize

Members of each subcommittee met multiple times to develop strategies and outcomes.

The Board of Education will be presented with the Strategic Plan Proposal on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

Guiding Questions

Our survey and listening sessions are designed to engage with our students, staff, families, and community in a new way, with hands-on activities and discussions. Whether participants chose to attend a school listening session or take our online survey, they were asked these four guiding questions as the basis for their input:

  • What existing area of focus would you like to see Heritage CUSD 8 continue to emphasize and prioritize moving forward?

  • What new areas of focus would you like to see Heritage emphasize and prioritize moving forward?

  • Specifically, are there strategies (programs/initiatives) that you believe Heritage should undertake?

  • What are the top three core values that best represent Heritage?
